When physical therapy and medications are unsuccessful or not feasible to treat overactive bladder or urge incontinence, Urgent PC can be a relatively simple treatment option. Approximately 60-80 per cent of patients observe improvement in their symptoms following a course of therapy. The treatment uses a small acupuncture-type needle inserted into the ankle, where a low level electrical stimulation is applied to stimulate the nerve. This nerve connects with bladder nerves and helps to alter the nerve impulses leading to overactive bladder. Treatment is performed for 30 minutes weekly for 12 weeks. Risks are low and side effects are rare. It is typically well-tolerated.
